Orange French Toast

This delicious french toast is flavored with fresh orange juice. Using Challah bread makes the toast so moist, tender, and fluffy.

Ingredients

  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon optional
  • 8 slices Challah or French bread sliced into 3/4-inch thick
  • unsalted butter for cooking
  • powdered sugar optional
  • pure maple syrup warmed

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 175ºF. Place a baking sheet inside the oven
  • In a large shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, orange juice, orange zest, sugar, vanilla extract and cinnamon. Soak the bread slices in the egg mixture for 1-2 minutes.
  • Heat 1 tablespoon butter in a large skillet over medium heat, add the soaked bread slices to the skillet and fry for 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Place the cooked toasts in the baking sheet and keep them warm in the oven until the rest of batches are fried.
  • To serve, sprinkle with powdered sugar and drizzle with warmed maple syrup
